Been writing cards to send via snail mail and talking to friends on the telephone this weekend. Non-digital. Kinda retro. I should do it more often.

Watched Liquid Sky for the first time Friday night (birthday gift from a couple sweet fellas down south). What a trip! I liked it a lot. A bold and singular vision. You know, the kind of film that would never be made in Hollywood. Also watched the original Batman again. I’m still pissed Jack Nicholson wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. Speaking of which … where’s Michael Douglas’ nom for Wonder Boys, and the nom for the score of O Brother, Where Art Thou, and … well I’ll leave that rant for closer to Oscar time.

Also finished the sketch for my new tattoo. And through the wonders of a scanner, Illustrator and Photoshop, here’s a fair approximation of what it will look like.

  1. WOW, Ron–that tattoo is MAJOR (in every sense of the word). I heartily approve…and feel a sudden need to spend money on tattoo #3 for myself (which I have been planning to get in the same spot you’re eyeing, as a matter of fact).

    What does Ron’s FUCKING COOL tattoo mean/symbolize?

    GGWoo.com says: Definite Herculian symbology. The main character of the design has a symbolic world (represented by, um…is that the Earthlink logo?)perched on his broad, Bearish shoulders. And with the tattoo on Ron’s right shoulder, doesn’t that mean he’s the bottom?

  3. I was going to describe what it is if anyone asked, but I like Beau’s idea much better. I’ll let this comments thread run a day or two then describe it myself. Most likely, someone else will come up with a better description than what the real one is.

  4. The trianglular thinger at the top, with the orbiting… er, circle… looks like a Hermetic symbol for the element of air, but with more swooshes. This would make sense, given Ron’s zodiac sign.

    Those four squiggly things? Those are tildes! That’s Ron saying, “I like the web!” Seriously.

    The rest of it is just kind of like a penis. But that’s cool. Overall, I like it.

  5. hey ron, kickass tattoo design! me like. i want to get some more work done, myself. i just don’t know at this stage if i feel like putting up with the healing period, itching, tattoo care, etc.

    but yes, very cool design. do you do a lot of drawing or is this a singular, inspired instance?
